IME designs and manufactures in Italy measuring instruments and integrated systems. The application fields are: electric measurement, industrial automation, energy management and protection.


IME was founded in 1946 and it started producing analogue instruments for the measurement of a.c. and d.c. electrical quantities. Today IME designs and produces analogue and digital measuring instruments and integrated systems for various application fields in Italy: electrical measurement, industrial automation, energy management, and protection.

Its first breakthrough arrived in the early '70s, when the company widened it product range and introduced electronics, with transducers for the conversion of electrical and physical quantities, as well as digital indicators.
The company then consolidated its offer of equipment for industrial and service sector systems with automatic circuit breakers for protection product range and energy meters for control product range.
In the'90s, the evolution continued: modular series, programmable instruments, multifunction measurement devices, man-machine interface.
Actual IME production ranges from the single instrument to the integrated system for centralised measuring management.


Over the years, IME has enhanced its facilities: an additional 1,000 m2 were added onto the original 10,000 m2 area for production and a new four-story building.
The reorganisation clearly delineated the functional areas: production, research and development, metrology, automatic calibration and testing , data processing center, sales department, finished products store (PxV).


Production is divided into the Analogue, Electronic and Transformer divisions. Its aim, in addition to the assembly, customization, instruments calibration and testing, this department conducts ongoing checks on the production lots and the equipment used, in order to assure product quality and repeatability: a very important factor in a company with an annual output capacity of 1.700.000 products with a hundred million parts.

Research and development

In the new plant layout, part of the original area is devoted to expanding the research and development laboratories, which embrace different areas of design: electrotechnical (study of materials, technical solutions, optimization of production processes), electronic (circuit design, type approval of components, printed circuit board design, firmware development) and mechanical (from the design of parts and enclosures to the construction of moulds and equipment for assembly and calibration).


It has three functions: custody of primary samples, certified by SIT (Italian Calibration Services) accredited bodies to guarantee their precision and conformity to national samples; testing rooms in which validating tests are carried out (environmental, electromagnetic compatibility, isolation, safety); reference for periodic precision tests of the equipment used in the production processes, such as gauges, signal generators, secondary samples and calibrating tables.

Automatic calibration and testing

A calibration and testing station for multifunction instruments which guarantees:
· calibration times faster and error rates lower than those which can be obtained with semi-automatic or operator-assisted systems
· real conformance of multifunction products to the national samples
· identification and traceability of every product
· continued control of the production, calibration and testing cycle
· self-diagnostics with identification of any product defects
· automated drafting of test certificates
· continually updated statistics for accuracy, non conformities, detected defects.

Sales department

The Sales Department is responsible for collecting and drafting offer requests, order handling, client relationships, co-ordination of sales networks, contacts with foreign branch offices, product promotion.
